So it’s been a minute. I just started Professional Development at the elementary school I’ll be teaching at this upcoming year AND gearing up for night classes starting in two weeks. So I’m getting back into my morning routine so I can really be intentional about my day and I can be at school as relaxed as I can be for my residency year.
I have to be at school in the morning by 730 but if you know me, I’m chronically early so I’ll honestly probably be there between 7:15 & 7:25, depending on how my morning’s going or if I need to stop to get some coffee on the way. I’m a morning person through and through but sometimes I still need a little extra help.
Normally, I get up between 5:30 and 5:45AM, do some meditation/breathing exercises for 5-10 minutes, and then I get up & have a #fab4smoothie that I’ve either made the night before or some remnants from the day before. If you haven’t heard of a #fab4smoothie, it’s part of a diet by celebrity nutritionist, Kelly Leveque, and it has fibre, greens, protein and something else in it AND THEY’RE SO GOOD. I usually make mine with almond milk, chia seeds, maca, spinach/kale, peanut butter, Vital Proteins collagen, and acai (or frozen fruit). They fill you up for a while and they’re delicious. Her cookbook (which I talked about here) is full of great, easy to make recipes that are not only healthy but fill you up and don’t take a French-trained chef to make.
After this, I usually do another breathing exercise, take a shower, and then make myself some green tea with magnesium in it. The brand I like is probably the same one you’ve probably seen across the hipster fancy schmancy Instagrams called Natural Calm and it’s by a brand called Natural Vitality. SO GOOD. My aunt recommended taking a magnesium supplement for my anxiety and it’s been working pretty well but isn’t a replacement for any doctor prescribed medications or approved by the FDA. So consult and make sure it’s right for you!
Anyway, usually throughout this, I let my dog out, say good morning to my partner, and get ready for the day. I’m a pro at multi-tasking….sometimes. Having this routine, if it goes the way I plan, really helps me set my day up right. Sometimes I even have enough time to sit down and do some writing as well!
